This is a great paper on how vulnerable parents are tricked and babies trafficked. The methods described are not that much different from those that have been used in United States to get babies for domestic adoption. One interesting quote about how much the babies cost: "Interestingly, US adopters pay far higher fees for Cambodian children than do adopters from other countries." .

Guatemalan Babies for Adoption - Adopt a baby from Guatemala? More abduction-adoption.

by Julio Godoy The French government has ordered a six-month suspension of all adoptions from the region. ”The better solution for the children is to be cared for in their societies of origin,” said minister for health and family Philippe Douste-Blazy.

Babies sold like loaves of bread in India's Cyber city - by Peter Popham in Delhi published in The Independent: "Desperate couples in the West are paying thousands of pounds to adopt Indian babies that have been sold to crooked orphanages by middlemen. These middlemen have bought them from tribeswomen in the impoverished countryside."

"The scandal first emerged two years ago in Hyderabad known as India's cyber city with its booming IT industry when two orphanages were raided and their respective directors arrested. But hopes that the trade had been stopped were dashed this week, when 100 babies were rescued by police and taken into government care. "

Adoption Row Roils Jakarta - Adoptive "father" abandons adopted Indonesian boy after his wife becomes pregnant with their own baby.

Korean Babies for Adoption Korea must stop overseas adoption Tobias Hubinette, Korea Herald, Feb 28, 2005

" from the 1980s and even more since the 1990s, the absolute majority of children who are nowadays sent to foreign countries are born by young and unwed girls attending high school or college. These young girls in their teenage of early 20s, often from a middle-class background, are locked in secretly at maternity homes belonging to the adoption agencies as soon as they get to know that they are pregnant. At the maternity homes, they are persuaded to relinquish their children to save the honor of their families and in reality to feed the adoption agencies' need of a steady supply of children for overseas adoption. In other words, a combination of patriarchal attitudes and economic greed lies behind today's overseas adoption from Korea, and thus the rights of both women and children are completely ignored. "

"..studies show high levels of psychiatric illness, drug and alcohol addiction, criminality and suicide among Sweden's overseas adoptees. The most shocking finding is that the suicide rate is 500 percent higher among overseas adoptees than among ethnic Swedes."

An article about Samoan Babies for Adoption. Do you see a trend? It is the job of the adoption agencies to make adopters feel good about saving "orphans". But with both inter-country adoption and domestic adoption mothers and relatives may be told arrangements are "temporary" when in fact their babies are gone for good, lost to adoptive baby-buyers.

Do you want to adopt a baby from another country?

When a child needs someone to care for her, it is the child's best interests that must be considered. Being cared for by an aging white woman in America is unlikely to be the best situation that can be found for a child of another culture.

Many countries have stated that they don't want to sell their smallest citizens to other countries as a commodity. They would prefer to fix the systems so that less children become orphaned and more children can remain in their own culture. Just selling a few (usually the most desirable) children does not help the great majority. But it's hard to protect children from those who have wealth and can purchase children away from their country.

Korean babies, Guatemalan babies, Russian babies, European babies, South American babies, Indian babies, babies from African countries, Thailand, China or Phillipines. People say the children can adjust. If they hate the food in United States and want to go back home - too bad! When will prospective adopters - who claim to love a child so much - move to where the child is so it's not the child who is forced to make the change?
