How They "Find" More Babies for Adopters

Nature vs. Adoption (usually called Nature vs. Nurture)

Raising a child within her own family vs. having her raised by unrelated persons may be compared with breast feeding vs. infant formula. We don't promote infant formula over breast feeding or even apologize when we say breast feeding is better for babies than formula. Infant formula is a backup plan. Likewise, unrelated caregivers are the backup plan to be used only when parents (and other adult relatives willing to raise the child) have been proven to be unfit.

Because nature vs.adoption is usually referred to as "nature vs. nurture" some people have the belief that caring for your own child is not nurturing - and that adoption is nurturing. In reality the first action that adopters take in "nurturing" is to deprive a newborn baby of her own mother so they can use the infant themselves. This is hardly nurturing.

It is easier for people to understand a child whose looks, personality and other characteristics mirror their own. Abuse is more common when people are raising an unrelated child. Reports of abuse in the news may seem to be about half by adopters and half by natural family. But when you consider that there are far less adopters, it's evident that the percentage of adoptive caregivers who abuse is much higher.
